UCLA Awaits Oregon For Homecoming

Written by

Rosen UAUCLA (3-3, 1-2) will host a beat up Oregon (4-3, 1-3) team in the Rose Bowl for UCLA’s homecoming game. The only Heisman Trophy winning in Bruin history, Gary Beban, and Maurice Jones-Drew will be honorary captains. Jones-Drew will be shrined in UCLA’s Hall of Fame this week and 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of when Beban captured the Heisman.

The Ducks have only scored 17 points since sophomore quarterback, Justin Herbert (6-6, 225) went down with an injury. He will be replaced by freshman, Braxton Burmeister (6-1, 204), who will be making his third start against the Bruins.

The bad news for the Bruin defense is they will probably get a steady diet of senior running back, Royce Freeman (6-0, 238), who is closing in on almost every single Oregon Duck rushing record.

If Freeman rushes for 57 yards, he will become only the 22 player in D-I football history to reach 5,000 career yards. If Freeman rushes for 102 yards, he will pass Oregon State great, Ken Simonton, to place third in the Pac 12 all-time rushing list. If Freeman rushes for 140 yards, he will become Oregon’s all-time rushing leader and he only needs to score one rushing touchdown to top Oregon’s all-time touchdown list.

UCLA’s defense has had a tough time against the run this season and will be duly tested by an Oregon offense that has had to rely on Freeman since the injury to Herbert.

Both UCLA and Oregon are looking to get their season back on track. With a Bruin victory, they will remain undefeated in the friendly confines of the Rose Bowl.

Look for a bounce-back game for UCLA junior quarterback, Josh Rosen. He was smarting after a subpar performance against Arizona. UCLA’s running game is improving each week and that is a sign of good coaching. The Bruins hope to continue that trend against the Ducks.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1:07 PM PST and will be televised by the Pac 12 Networks with Roxy Bernstein handling the play-by-play, Anthony Herron analyzing the action and Lewis Johnson on the sideline.

The Bruin IMG Radio Network will radio broadcast the contest, which will also be aired over Sirius/XM, with Josh Lewin, Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook in their usual roles.
