Bruins Burned By Tate and Cats

Written by

Olorunfunmi B UAUCLA (3-3, 1-2) saw up close what kind of second act Wildcat quarterback, Khalil Tate would have. Just one week after being Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Week when he rushed for 327 yards and threw for 142. Against the Bruins, Tate rushed for 234 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing for 148 yards and one touchdown leading Arizona (4-2, 2-1) to a convincing 47-30 victory.

The battered Bruin defense gave up a disastrous 605 total offensive yards. There aren’t a lot of teams, if any, that would be able to pull out a victory while giving up that much yardage. The outcome was predictable.

UCLA’s offense had four turnovers, three Josh Rosen interceptions and one Soso Jamabo fumble that turned into 10 points. Two of Rosen’s picks were in the red zone and the third was returned for a touchdown.

What could go wrong ultimately did go wrong for the Bruins. On defense, tackling struggles continued although there was a lot of work put in during the bye week to remedy the problem.

It appears that the Bruins are playing two different seasons one where they are successful when they are playing in the friendly confines of the Rose Bowl and another one when they play on the road where they are their own worst enemies.

On the road, the Bruins have turned the ball over 11 times that is a recipe for disaster and disaster is what has greeted the Bruins all three road games.

The Bruin coaching staff better right the ship in a hurry, or a season that started with so much promise, could end up sinking like the Titanic. UCLA’s three remaining road games are against arguably three of the top four of five teams in the conference. UCLA has to play Washington, Utah, and USC on the road.

The Bruins don’t have it easy at home for the remaining schedule either. Starting with an Oregon (4-3, 1-3) team, as desperate for a win as the Bruins, coming to the Rose Bowl this coming Saturday for 1:00 PM PST kickoff.
