UCLA Welcomes Oregon State

Written by

Holiday A CSUBUCLA (17-8, 8-5) is coming off a stinging 88-79 loss to ASU, and will now welcome Oregon State (13-11, 5-7) in the first of two games that will be the last homestand of the season.

The Bruins lost earlier in the season to Oregon State proving that there are no easy games in the Pac-12 this season.

In that first contest against the Beavers, Aaron Holiday, as he has done for most of the season led the Bruins in scoring with 22 points, making 11 of 12 free throws.

Holiday’s heroics weren’t enough as Oregon State playing hard-nosed defense upended the Bruins' 69-63.

The Bruins struggled offensively most of the night and had to come back from a 48-40 deficit. UCLA was able to tie the game at 48-48, and even took the lead 60-59, with 3:24 to play, but the Beavers tightened up on the defensive end and pretty much shut down the Bruins. From that point, Oregon State outscored UCLA10-3 to close the game and take home the victory.

Against ASU, the Bruins didn’t have an answer for the sizzling shooting three Sun Devil guards. Shannon Evans had a game-high 23 points, Tra Holder added 22 points, and Kodi Justice chipped in 17.

UCLA had four players who scored in double-figures but just couldn’t get over the hump. Four Bruins were Aaron Holiday (20), Thomas Welsh (14) while GG Golomon and Kris Wilkes scored 11 points apiece.

This key homestand starting with Oregon State is scheduled to tipoff at 8:00 PM PST and will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1 with Joe Davis doing the play-by-play and former Bruin coach Steve Lavin analyzing the action.

UCLA Sports Network from IMG will broadcast the game locally on AM 570 Radio with Josh Lewin and UCLA great Tracy Murray performing their usual roles.
