Bruins Hoops Announce Home And Home With Irish

Written by  UCLA Official Press Release

Celebration 300LOS ANGELES– The UCLA men’s basketball team will face Notre Dame in a home-and-home series beginning in Dec. 2018, it was announced Friday.

UCLA will take on Notre Dame for the first time since Dec. 2009 when the two historic programs face each other in Pauley Pavilion on Dec. 8, 2018. The Bruins will travel to play at Notre Dame in Dec. 2019.

“We’re excited to add a bigtime home-and-home series with Notre Dame to our future schedules,” UCLA head coach Steve Alford said. “These schools have been playing each other for decades, so it’s always great to match up with Notre Dame. I have a ton of respect for Mike Brey and the fantastic job that he’s done with the Fighting Irish, and I know that one year from now, this is certainly a game our fans will be excited to watch. It’s great for our sport to have two tradition-rich programs taking center stage.”

This marks the fifth nationally prominent home-and-home series that UCLA has added to its schedule in the last four years, including previous meetings in Pauley Pavilion against Gonzaga (Dec. 2014), Kentucky (Dec. 2015) and Michigan (Dec. 2016) and an upcoming matchup at home this season versus Cincinnati (Dec. 2017).

The Bruins have compiled a 28-20 all-time record against Notre Dame in a non-conference series that first began during the 1952-53 season. The two schools last played each other during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, with UCLA winning in Pauley Pavilion on Feb. 7, 2009 and Notre Dame securing a victory in the Joyce Center on Dec. 19, 2009.
