UCLA Baseball to Send 26 Players to Summer Leagues

UCLA Baseball 350LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Baseball program is set to send 26 players to various summer baseball leagues around the country, including the Cape Cod League, Northwoods League and West Coast League among others.

The prestigious Cape Cod League will host four Bruins. Junior infielder Sean Bouchard, who tied for the team lead with 36 RBI last season, will compete for the Chatham Anglers. Joining him in Chatham will be relief pitcher Moises Ceja, who posted a team-low 2.60 ERA in 2016, while right-handed pitcher Jake Bird will play for the Falmouth Commodores and left-handed pitcher Justin Hooper will play for the Cotuit Kettleers.

A total of six Bruins will play in the Northwoods League. Outfielder Daniel Amaral and relief pitcher Nathan Hadley, who made the second most appearances on the team last season, will compete for the Duluth Huskies. Catcher/infielder Jake Hirabayashi, pitcher Jack Ralston and incoming catcher Gavin Johns will all play for the La Crosse Loggers and right-handed pitcher Brian Gadsby will appear for the Mankato MoonDogs.

The West Coast League will host a total of 11 Bruins, more than any other summer league. Sophomore pitcher Jon Olsen along with incoming freshman infielder Chase Strumpf will play for the Bellingham Bells, while a trio of incoming freshmen, infielder Ryan Kreidler, first baseman Michael Toglia and outfielder Jeremy Ydens will all compete for the Wenatchee AppleSox. Another pair of players, outfielder Jordan Myrow and incoming freshman pitcher Nick Scheidler will play for the Walla Walla Sweets. Two more incoming freshmen, pitcher Kyle Mora and outfielder Jarron Silva will compete for the Victoria HarbourCats, while fellow freshmen pitcher Ryan Garcia and infielder Jack Stronach will play for the Yakima Valley Pippins and Kitsap BlueJackets respectively.

Rounding out the summer ball placements are pitcher Garrett Barker who is set to play for the Newport Gulls in the New England League, first baseman Zander Clarke and incoming freshman outfielder Jordan Prendiz who will each play for the Portland Pickles in the Great West League, pitcher Matt Walker who will compete for the San Luis Obispo Blues in the California League and incoming freshman infielder/outfielder Kyle Cuellar who will play for the Arcadia Astros.
