UCLA Loses Series Finale to Arizona State

Written by  UCLA Official Press Release

Kramer K 350LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Bruins dropped the final game of the series to Arizona State, 10-4, in front of 1,843 fans at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The offense totaled nine hits in the loss, led by Luke Persico (2-for-5, RBI) who notched his third multi-hit game of the weekend. Daniel Rosica (2-for-4) also pitched in a pair of hits.

Jake Bird (1-5) received the loss for the Bruins, allowing three runs on four hits in just 0.1 inning of work. Jordan Aboites (6-1) got the win for ASU, allowing three runs over seven innings and Eder Erives (9) earned the two-inning save.

Arizona State (33-19, 15-12) got things going early with three runs in the opening inning to jump ahead of UCLA. A two-run home run by David Greer and a sacrifice-fly by Andrew Snow put the Sun Devils on top 3-0.

UCLA (25-28, 12-15) got one back in the second inning to pull within two. However, the run came in on a double play ball which kept the Bruins from possibly generating a bigger inning.

That run was soon erased in the third as the Sun Devils got a sac-fly from Jeremy McCuin to regain their three-run lead. Arizona State continued to pad its lead with another two runs in the fifth to go up 6-1 on the Bruins.

UCLA worked back into the game with a productive seventh inning to inch closer to Arizona State. Brett Urabe laced a triple to the gap in right center to score Trent Chatterton from second and was followed with an RBI-ground out from Eric Filia to cut the deficit to three.

That would be as close as UCLA would get though as Arizona State put the game away in the top of the ninth with a four-run inning to go up by seven.

Filia would drive in a run in the bottom of the ninth to cut the deficit to six, but the Bruins fell short and lost the contest 10-4.

UCLA now travels to Corvallis to take on Oregon State for its final series of the season beginning on Friday, May 27 at 4:00pm PT. Fans can watch the series live on the Pac-12 Network or listen live at
