kaprielian j 350TUCSON, Ariz. – A ninth-inning RBI-single from Sean Bouchard lifted the No. 14 UCLA Bruins to a 4-3 victory over the Arizona Wildcats on Friday evening at Hi Corbett Field. The win evens the weekend series at one game apiece.

With two outs and a man on second in the ninth, Sean Bouchard came up clutch with a line drive single to right center to score Kort Peterson from second and deliver the Bruins the one-run victory.

Grant Dyer (1-1) tossed his first career complete game to get the win for UCLA, striking out seven batters while allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits. Bobby Dalbec (4-2) received the loss for Arizona after allowing the winning run in his two innings of work.

Bouchard (3-for-5, 2 RBI) led the way offensively, driving in a team-high two runs on three hits. Eric Filia (2-for-4, 2B) and Kort Peterson (2-for-4, 3B, 2 R, RBI) also finished with multi-hit nights to assist the attack.

UCLA (12-8, 4-1) scored first for the second night in a row, getting one in the opening frame. Brett Urabe began the game by taking the second pitch he saw into the left center gap for a lead-off triple. Brett Stephens then did his job with an RBI-groundout to the right side to give the Bruins an early, 1-0, lead.

Arizona (15-7, 2-3) took the lead from UCLA in the fourth with a pair of runs. One run came in on a failed pick-off attempt that went into center field. Then, Alfonso Rivas followed with an RBI-single and the Wildcats took a 2-1 advantage to the fifth.

However, in the top of the fifth the Bruins regained the lead with a two-run frame. With a runner on first and one out, Peterson laced an RBI-triple to the right-center gap to tie the score at two. Then, Bouchard followed with a hard-hit RBI-single through the left side to lift UCLA to a 3-2 edge.

The Wildcats battled back to tie it with a Zach Gibbons two-out RBI-single in the bottom of the six to even the count at three apiece.

Even heading to the ninth, Peterson reached on a two-out single to put the go-ahead run on base. Then, after stealing second, Peterson was brought home on the Bouchard single to give the Bruins the series tying victory.
